So…I need to get it off my chest and I didn’t feel comfortable doing so on twitter and I suddenly remembered I had this blog lying around. Anyway what I wanted to say is that I’m really quite sad about permission to dance. This does not mean that I’m losing interest in bangtan or that I love them any less. I truly truly don’t. But this song was a huge miss for me. It sounds completely generic, and the fact that the voices are so heavily processed doesn’t help at all. I get that they were going for a “we’re one” sound but I feel like if the song structure or lyrics that are so unique to them aren’t going to be there, at least I’d appreciate being able to tell their voices apart. The song is catchy, but that’s it. The MV is also a little bit cringey to me, and I know that’s on ME, but the timing also feels so off. Why are they taking their masks off no put them back on we need those masks to stay ON! I understand that the MV is set in the future or something and it’s meant to represent the moment WHEN we are able to put this whole thing behind us but it was just not done well in my opinion.

Basically I’m sad, like I really just don’t feel much else. This release really just lacked whatever makes BTS’s music so special, it has no personality and no heart. I’m sorry, it IS wholesome I guess but nothing more and I would just really love to sit down with the members and know their true feelings about this song and why they released it. I also think it would’ve been better if it hadn’t been promoted as much or had an MV. If it’d come out as just a b-side from the Butter CD, the expectations would’ve been much lower, at least mine.

Apart from that, I’m worried that many armys are being insincere about their feelings toward this song. It’s as if no criticism is allowed and people who didn’t even like the song will probably stream it and mass buy it to get it high on the charts. But what does it even mean? If we don’t tell them how we really feel, how are they gonna know? Just think about how surprised they were to see that armys are dying for a LTB performance. They need our feedback and it needs to be honest.

I honestly kind of hope this song won’t do too well and it will be forgotten soon-ish. It is quite a terrible feeling and like I said I’m very sad about this. I love Bangtan so much and I hope they are always free to release whatever art they want to do. So if this is it, I respect that. But this just feels like a product and someone else’s at that.

In any case I’m still very much hopeful for whatever music they’re working on because we know something is coming sooner or later. But I’m just disappointed today.

I know I said I was on a short hiatus but seeing what’s happening on my tl forces me to say smth about it.

I want to speak for myself for once so yeah, guys let’s be honest, permission to dance doesn’t “slap”, isn’t “song of the year” or “of the century” like some ppl are saying around here lmao.

In my opinion, the beat is almost completely flat, sounds the same, there’s no up and down, beat drops or anything that can make it lively or energetic. Therefore, it’s not my genre.

(And we don’t necessarily have to make this about bts because they didn’t even write this thing lmao, some authors gave it to them and they sang it and shot the mv, bye)

Also, I like versatility and something that is different from the usual songs but at this point it’s getting tiring. We had Dynamite and it was okay, we got Butter (which in my opinion is the best among the English songs) and now this? I woke up at fucking 6am and was a bit disappointed when I first listened to it. I listened to it three times now and I’m getting used to it, the chorus is nice but I don’t have anything to say about the rest.

Plus, one thing I want to focus on is Namjoon and Yoongi and a bit of Hoseok in particular. Like I said, I like versatility and smth different/new but,, if they’re rappers there’s a reason. I’m not saying that the rap line can’t sing, they can and they showed it. However, I want to talk about Namgi in particular (since Hoseok has a higher voice than them), they have their deep, beautiful voices. In the beginning they were underground rappers and didn’t want to be idols or, more importantly, vocalists straight away. In fact they’re not vocalists. I’m also saying this because I don’t have the most feminine voice in this world, therefore I am too unable to sing high notes but mostly just the low ones. So… giving them higher notes for their voices where they have to use autotune? Meh,,

I’m not saying autotune shouldn’t be used because it was born to fix voices/songs, but using it too much until it distorts the voice is a nono for me.

Another small thing I want to say is that

Disliking a song of your fav band doesn’t !! make you !! a hater !!

The last album of Green Day was hated on but they still were fans even if it sucked.

Everyone fucking hates the album Hot Space by Queen. QUEEN. AND ARE YOU SEEING THEM LOSING FANS? NO. A single album or song that isn’t the best doesn’t make a shitty discography or doesn’t take away the talent from an artist.

In conclusion, the last thing I want to say is that we can still support them because they’re still our boys and we should be by their side. Sharing an opinion that is different from the rest doesn’t mean throwing shit at them.

And most importantly, if you don’t like a song you shouldn’t feel bad about it.

You like the song? Perfect! You don’t like it? It’s okay! EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND HAS DIFFERENT TASTES.

“ptd is a banger” no its not, and you know it. i was a bts fan for a while but now its actually painful to see them doing mainstream songs like this. i vibed with dynamite, then butter came out and I was like… ah, okay I guess its not bad. but now ptd came out and even the music video made me think like.. what are they doing? im saying this because I know and we all know how talented they are!! that’s why its painful to see them doing songs like this. have y'all thought about how the rapline is not being used at all? like, they’re so talented, and I mean being used LIKE REAL RAP. like in TEAR or cypher. i cant really consider that they’re rapping in their parts in life goes on for example, bc its more like slow talking or something… man idk ptd just doesn’t feel like them at all. and before anyone says im hating, im NOT. im simply sad that they’re not using their talent. they haven’t made a banger like black swan in a hot minute for example… while stray kids for example, have made gods menu, back door, and now thunderous and they’re all bangers with high quality production… idkkkkkk

ALSO: first of all, y'all believe everything they say, when you don’t even stop to think that this is their JOB, they’re never gonna tell things as they are, they’re always gonna find some pretty things to say instead of the actual reason. so when they say this English songs are a gift for army and y'all just eat it up and push that narrative to everyone else, it just looks ridiculous. because if you’re being honest with yourself you know that this English songs are just them running after a grammy. which there’s nothing wrong with wanting a grammy but I think from the moment they start to produce mediocre songs JUST to win a grammy, then that’s where you should draw the line. because its not them. and I know that army hates when we say this, but ITS TRUE. its not them. they’re doing everything they can to appeal to the American audience and its just painful to see. and the reason is that we know how talented they are. you could also argue that this is their pandemic phase and that’s why they’re releasing songs like this, but that shouldn’t be an excuse because they have the money and the talent to do amazing things even in this conditions. heck, other artists are producing amazing songs EVEN NOW and releasing amazing MVs, even tho they know they cant perform right now! but BTs is just falling into this cycle…. I really really hope they’re working on new exciting things… Because when they released dynamite, it was new and fun right, but then they started to do TOO much,, like releasing a bunch of random remixes that no one cares about, and performing dynamite to the point that I think even they were tired of it. then butter came out and the same cycle repeated. and now PTD…. its just too much. PTD really had the feeling of them wanting to be liked by everyone and pretending to be really good people (which they are) and even including ASL made me feel like….. like they’re TRYING to have people like them for this things instead of for their actual TALENT. because with this things, they’re gonna be known in America as bts who sang Dynamite and Butter and PTD and not for their amazing songs like black swan, on , etc…… idk there’s so many things that are bothering me rn, I just really hope they’re working on something bigger and this was their last English song.
